"I would too admit it! You're just trying to get out of guessing because you know you won't get it right." So there. She makes a face at him like a persnickity cat and after a moment sticks her tongue out for good measure.
Because she is a super mature demigod, you betcha.
"How often are my guesses wrong?" WELL JYN??He makes an exaggerated face when she sticks out her tongue, but it's not really a surprise.
There's an urge to stick his own out right back too, but he resists because Cassian is clearly the more Mature person here, the one making faces to decree how silly this is.
"Just because it's not often doesn't mean it's not possible. You've met me, yeah? Remember how I'm not supposed to exist?" In your face, Andor.
She wants to shove him but she wants to keep holding her hand so she splits the difference and sort of barrels her whole body into him. Surely this will end well. No doubt.
"Yeah, but I'm not supposed to be wrong. That logic doesn't work."
Cassian senses what she's doing about one second after she starts to move, and he knows he'd have to let go of her hand to stop himself from falling. But he doesn't want to let go of her hand. It's the dumbest conundrum.
So he stumbles when she rams into him and trips on his feet, his other arm flying around her to keep them both upright, only that balance apparently means tugging her up against him with a spin to offset the weight.
But hey, at least they're standing. She didn't win and knock him over!
She blinks up at him, half startled to find herself suddenly in his arms and not on the ground next to him. She's willing to sacrifice her own balance to take someone down, she didn't expect Cassian to spin her around and further his grip on her.
"If you know you're going to guess correctly, then guess. What is stopping you?" Jyn isn't sure she is talking about guessing anymore, especially seeing as she doesn't jerk out of his arms. It's not the first time she has been here, usually it is combined with a lot more life or death or Cassian straight up picking her up and carrying her away from a fight. This is not the protective grasp of a very good friend.
But also unwilling to lose, she hooks her leg around the back of his knee and yanks it forward and the rest of her leans into him. She will win and she will knock him on his ass.
Cassian knows he's done it, made a semi-conscious decision to use her weight to counteract falling, but he seems half startled by the end results too, like he's surprised she's still there in his arms and way too close.
"I'm working on it," is the reply, which is also not necessarily related to making a guess. He blinks down at her and swallows, because it's a different way of holding her than usual, even awkwardly twisted as they are from the handholding - but he likes it.
And then she catches him off guard. He thinks he might have been able to stop himself if he wasn't holding her, but he is, and his grip tightens around her to take her down with him as he falls over. He lands with a thunk on his back and Jyn on top of him, still trapped against him because his arms are still keeping her there snugly. She smells like the ocean, but she usually does.
OH BOY this is so much contact in a manner than she is not exceptionally used to. She brought it on to herself and she isn't actually all that displeased. She'd say she got him right where she wanted him but she didn't envision far enough to imagine him underneath her. But he definitely fell so she won.
Still, a grin slides across her expression, proud and smug and ever defiant. "Pinned ya." After a second, "You okay?"
Her grin is infectious, seeping into his face and making him grin back, even as he grapples with her weight on top of him. It's - comfortable, probably, but he quickly shoves that thought out of his head.
"I'm fine." He sounds mildly huffy because this is nothing compared to other injuries he's sustained. But then: "Am I really pinned if you can't get up either?"
In theory he should let her go, but now he's just tightening his hold even more. Pinning her right to him, cool. Cool cool cool cool no doubt. Doesn't matter because this is now some sort of fight, apparently.
"Yes, I'm still on top of you and your shoulders are on the ground." Those are the wrestling rules the Ares cabin decreed so they're the rules she's going with here to take the win.
But she does press her toes against his shins, trying to scrabble some kind of leverage over him, without kneeing him in the dick because that is rude and she only uses that kind of low blow when the occasion really calls for it -- like the first time they sparred and the fight went on so long that the entire camp ended up watching and it was called a draw because they both wound up flat on their backs and breathing heavy.
All her squirming achieves is wriggling around on top of him so. Not the success she had in mind now that butterflies are having a mosh pit in her belly and a flush is slowly creeping up her neck.
This may have been a bad idea. She's so wriggly, and since he's pressed between her and the dock, he can feel every single movement. His stomach rolls over, and the easiest solution would be to just let her go, but that means she wins.
He hooks a leg around hers and uses his weight to roll them over, shoving her back into the dock and keeping her down with his hips and shit, wait, this was also not a good idea. He catches sight of the red on her neck and it startles him, just not enough to avoid a struggle to keep her arms down too.
"Now you're pinned."
He is pointedly ignoring how red he knows his ears also are. At least it's not as obvious a flush compared to hers.
She struggles at first, instinct, trying to rock her shoulders off the dock but she's not a professional wrestler and Cassian has something like fifty pounds on her and that's not fair. Not when all she has is her upper body strength, which honestly is a lot compared to most women her size -- Saw had trained her by pushing her out a window and making her climb back up so she learned damn quick how to use her arms.
The struggle lessens until she stills completely, all but melting underneath him. It's a ploy, but not one she thinks is going to succeed. It's a ploy for a ploy. She wants him to think she's relaxing so that she can shove him off when he relaxes in turn.
Instead, she's gonna bite his arm while he's expecting something else and hopefully startle him enough to get the upper hand again.
Jyn is strong, and he's heavier than her, but it doesn't mean it doesn't take effort to keep her down. He focuses on that rather than the way she moves under him.
He doesn't trust her one bit when she stops struggling, his whole body lined with a tension that comes from the uncertainty of what she's going to do next. He doesn't loosen his grip anywhere, just squints down at her and holds firm.
Cassian runs through her known tactics. They're surrounded by water, but she tends to use that as a last resort with him. She doesn't have a good enough grip to flip him back. She could be waiting for him to relax to slip herself out quick. She could very well try to bite him too. She could twist her arms free if he gets too confident in his hold. Maybe she's gonna kick him.
The problem with Jyn is that even though he's come to know how she fights, predicting her next move is more of a challenge than anything else. Cassian stills, but he doesn't meet her relaxation with his own. Too Suspicious.
Damn it, he isn't relaxing. While this annoys her because there is no way to get the drop on him when he is tense -- STUPID CLEVER BOY -- it also sends a shiver of satisfaction down her spine. Damn right he knows better than to relax around her, damn right.
Her eyebrows knit together briefly, realizing none of her normal options are going to work. She can't just take him on physically and hope to win. She can't even really try to plan ahead because he's no doubt already come up with every single possible option she has at her disposal because that is just how his mind works and it makes her bristle knowing she finds that tactical brilliance to be the most attractive thing about him.
She's going to have to wing it, but that's fine. She's always worked better without thinking at all. She sharpens all her focus to one point, how their breaths are perfectly in time, and lets her mind wander. She wonders idly when he had to start shaving, eyes skating over the soft shadow of stubble across his cheeks, wondering at the same time if Mr. D was the one that had to teach him. Jyn isn't his favorite camper and vice versa but she knows he effectively raised Cassian so she's sure he has some redeeming qualities and his own twin sons seem to love him.
Out of literally nowhere, they're suddenly in the middle of a rainstorm, heavy drops pelting down on the two of them, turning the pale wood of the dock dark as heavy clouds roll in, the sheets of rain basically obscuring the two of them from view of the rest of camp. She's expending a lot of effort to prove a point, but that's kind of her thing.
He plaintively ignores the shiver just like he's ignoring so many other things. Cassian is a very smart demigod, but he can also be very dumb.
She goes so long without doing anything that Cassian starts to get a little antsy, jaw tightening a little because the wait is too long. It's hard to imagine her thinking in the strategic longterm, and he knows better than to assume she's given up. He doesn't miss the way she looks over his face and the thoughtful look on her own, and it's almost like she's thinking about him from the look in her eyes, but that's dumb.
Then it starts to rain, and he can feel his clothes soaking through. He groans, giving her a very Unimpressed Look, even though he still doesn't move or loosen his posture at all. "You better not be cheating."
She's already exhausted from expending so much effort to keep them in this little rainstorm so she uses her last burst of effort to stretch up and kiss him, firm and solid and slick with rain and strawberry chapstick.
And then she shoves him as hard as she can toward the edge of the dock.
It's not quite a bluescreen moment, but to say she's finally startled him would be accurate. He freezes with surprise and barely has time to think about responding (to think about kissing her back, which is all he wants to do) before she shoves him.
He's caught so utterly off guard that the shove is hard enough to push him off her, falling sideways and landing half on his legs, half on his butt. The rain sticks to his hair and he stares at her, the normal instinct to just dive at her again at war with the surprise of the kiss.
She kissed him. Jyn kissed him. Jyn Erso kissed him, Cassian Andor, and she tasted like strawberries and he really, really wants to kiss her again but - maybe it wasn't meant to be anything more than a distraction.
He scrambles towards her again. "Definitely cheating."
She has just enough time to scramble to her knees and launch herself at him again, the rain abating almost instantaneously so it still looks like they're just having a typical wrestling match that just so happens to be highly sexually charged because Jyn and Cassian are both idiots. She's about to grab him when she stops suddenly, promptly sitting down.
Her hand lifts to press to Cassian's chest.
"Not cheating this time... Look." She gestures vaguely with her other hand toward the cabins. Where Bodhi is pressed up against the back of one of the pillars of the mess hall with one of the Aphrodite girls kissing him with some aggression, the both of them soaked to the bone. His hands are flailing around her hips like he is unsure of what to do with himself.
He almost misses the rain, because it curbs the urge he has to kiss her, not wanting whoever might be watching to see. Cassian feels like he's out of breath, but maybe not strictly from the pure act of grappling with her.
He's already got his hands on her shoulders when she presses hers to his chest, and it stops him from shoving her over, though it doesn't make him drop his arms. He wonders if she can feel his heart thudding like he does.
A little hesitantly, like he's expecting her to pull another trick, he glances where she gestures. He spots Bodhi immediately thanks to the flapping arm maneuver, and chokes out the smallest of laughs. "He has no idea what to do with his hands."
As if he is still not touching Jyn with his own, as if that tension isn't still seeping through his bones like always. "Are you telling me the rain was for his sake?"
"No..." She admits absently, marveling at the sight of her best friend being kissed. God, that girl has got gusto, Jyn has to give it to her for enthusiasm. She is utterly fascinated by the idea of being so open with affection that it doesn't seem to bother her even a little bit that the rain had stopped and the entire camp could catch them making out.
Finally Bodhi's hands settle at the girl's waist and Jyn breathes out a laugh and turns her focus back to Cassian.
"No, the rain was for us. Who is that girl?" Yeah, she is going harp on about Bodhi forever now.
He wrinkles his nose a little. Intended for them but. For distraction? He only thinks about it for two seconds before knowing it was to hide them. To hide her kissing him.
Oh gods she kissed him. He glances at her face for a moment, at her mouth, then quickly darts back towards Bodhi and the girl.
"Her name is Hana. She's been here about two years, and she's Bodhi's age. She's not a year rounder, but she comes for all the holidays." It's far more than Jyn asked for upfront, but he doesn't have any issues sharing it because he too would now like to tease Bodhi. "I've seen her trying to flirt with him, but he never seemed to notice before."
A beat. "Were you hiding us?"
Cassian knows she was, but he wants to see how she answers.
Hana, Bodhi's age, comes for holiday. Holiday or holidays? Her mouth slants into a thoughtful frown. She's not upset, but she's thinking hard. Debating whether or not she approves of the girl.
"I was hiding us. I'm not..." She gestures toward Hana and Bodhi, looking faintly displeased and maybe a little jealous? She's obviously not as brave as Hana the daughter of Aphrodite with her cute little bob and her long legs that are somehow perfectly smooth and her probably perfect teeth and boobs and clear skin and relatively good mental health for a demigod. Her effortless good looks drive Jyn a little insane and she doesn't even know the girl, reaching up to coax her wet, tangled hair over her shoulder like that's going to help. "I prefer privacy."
She looks back at Cassian. "She's not going to break his heart on purpose because he's Roman, is she?"
He follows her gesture again, but takes note of her expression too, because it's off. She doesn't look happy, and she might even look a little jealous, which confuses him on several levels because he knows there's nothing at all romantic on her end towards Bodhi and vise versa.
"I don't think so." Least of all because she's got to know that anyone who purposely hurts Bodhi answers to the both of them. "From what I can tell, she likes him."
His attention shifts to her when she fiddles with her hair, and he remembers he's still holding her shoulders mostly because it brushes over his fingers. He could move them. But he doesn't. "Privacy," he repeats, because it still doesn't give him an answer. "For - fighting? Or for kissing me?"
"For kissing you, Cassian," she clarifies, a touch impatiently because he is smart, he should know the answer to that. "Why would we need privacy for wrestling?"
Her frown stays, forehead wrinkling. "How can you tell she likes him?"
"Her body language. She turns towards him and smiles far more when she's looking at him." A beat, because now he definitely thinks about all the times Jyn has smiled at him. "And she's asked me about him once or twice. She thinks he's cute."
It really should not be this irritating but he still can't figure out if she kissed him because she wanted to or because she knew it would work. He huffs a little, and his hands slide down her arms, resting atop her fingers. He wishes it was still raining, which probably at least tells him enough about what he wants.
She seems so unflapped by it, so unaffected, which makes him think maybe it wasn't a big deal on her end, privacy or otherwise. "If you're going to start bringing kissing into wrestling, maybe."
"Those were half unrelated incidents. You're holding my hand again." Hands, really, and she turns hers a little without even thinking about it. Her forehead wrinkles further, trying to figure out what he's going after.
She decides she probably won't be kissing him again which makes her heart sink deep into her chest, mourning the loss of the absolutely nothing they had, because they're friends. They're just friends. He is her best good friend and it was a one off, and that's that.
