The way she smiles has his stomach rolling over, and he kind of wants to break more rules just to see it again. "I'd say you are a terrible influence, but it's a dumb rule nobody follows anyway."
He startles a little when she kisses his jaw, not in a bad way, just in a way that has him digging his fingers into her waist a little harder than he means to. "Bodhi's sweatpants are comfortable," he says, and he kisses the corner of her mouth. "But I should put my shirt on."
With the utmost reluctance, he pulls his hand away and sits up, blinking down at her for a few long seconds and smiling a little shyly before he ducks his head away, leaning over the side of the bed to find his shirt. It would be far easier to get out of bed, but he doesn't want to. So there.
"Aren't they?" She props herself up on her elbow, dropping her head into her hand to casually watch him, stifling a yawn. "I don't know where he gets them but they're the softest pants I've ever worn."
Because of course she wears them, there's a reason she kept them in her cabin, even if not in her trunk. They're soft as a cloud and so warm and they smell like her darling best friend. And now they'll smell like her other best friend. The best of both worlds, as far as she's concerned.
"Sometimes he leaves them at Dad's house and I sort of just hold them hostage." Bodhi was worried about Hermes cabin stealing his stuff, but he should have worried about Jyn.
Cassian is very aware that she's watching him and he tries hard not to think about it, snatching his shirt from the floor and hauling himself back on the bed. He fidgets for a second, then slips the blanket off his shoulders so he can tug his shirt back on.
He feels a little more at ease. Not that he was uncomfortable before. But. It's too new, the barrier is nice.
"Do you own any of your own actual clothes?" He wriggles back into his spot on the bed. He should not be thinking about stealing Bodhi's pants for himself, at least temporarily. Besides, maybe if he starts wearing Bodhi's pants he'll get rumors on that end instead of Jyn. Strategic pants theft. "It sounds like they live here more than his own cabin which - I would not blame him."
She doesn't dignify his question with an answer -- mostly because the answer is no. At least at camp. She'd gotten here before she'd gotten her father back so all her clothes her hand-me-downs to replace the absolute rags she'd had left from her time on her own after Saw.
Now she has clothes at her house in the city, but she hasn't bothered bringing any to camp. Her shorts used to be Bodhi's jeans, her pajamas are hand-me-downs from Cassian's sisters and the girls from Demeter cabin, her tee shirts are either the ones the camp gave her or Bodhi's, any long pants she needed came courtesy of Leia -- they're about the same height.
"He doesn't really belong in that cabin, you know? He's Roman but he definitely doesn't belong there, except there isn't really a place for him here either. He feels at home here, like... I dunno. Since he's not Greek the harpies don't even realize he sleeps in here sometimes. I think Mr D just doesn't care since Bodhi existing here is breaking all the rules anyway." She shrugs. It probably helps that she and Bodhi are effectively siblings, in spirit if not by blood or divine parentage.
He likes the idea of Bodhi finding a home with Jyn in her cabin, for both their sakes. As much as he'd love to have his own private cabin, he imagines it gets very lonely. Picturing the two of them with some sort of nightly routine makes him feel kind of warm, that even though the camp itself hasn't always been the most welcoming to either, they can still find something good in the place that essentially raised him. Cassian really does want them to be happy here.
So he's smiling as she talks, only realizing partway through but he doesn't bother to hide it. "Honorary adopted child of Poseidon?" He has a moment where he wishes he could join them - not because he's whatevering with Jyn so much as the camaraderie he holds onto between all three of them.
The Athena cabin has long been his space, but Jyn (and Bodhi) are home in a way he never quite reached with his half-siblings, with a mother none of them have met.
"Though if he stays here sometimes, is he going to walk in on us?"
Something tells him they aren't going to stay secret from Bodhi too long.
She nods at the honorary family he bestows on her best friend, sliding her hand across the sheets to catch his hand in hers as she snuggles more comfortably on her side, tucking her head onto the pillow and blinking up at Cassian.
"Probably." Look at how much Jyn doesn't care, giving his hand a little tug to pull him back into her personal space. "But he's terrified of catching me in my knickers so he knocks. You can just jump into the next bunk over."
He's a little surprised when she grabs his hand but manages to snuff it out before she notices. He hopes. But it's not a bad surprise, and he squeezes her fingers.
At least at first. His heart sort of stutters in his chest when she pulls him closer, but he doesn't fight that either, relaxing into it as swiftly as he'd been startled by it. It's not like personal space existed between them before he started kissing her. "Maybe they know he wouldn't break any real rules anyway." It's Bodhi. He is too good for this world, too pure. He knocks on the door to make sure Jyn is dressed. "I don't think it will take him long to notice but - I don't think I'd mind Bodhi knowing, when he does."
He wriggles in closer himself, knees brushing her legs. "Does that mean you want me to stay here?" A beat. "A lot?"
If she's already coming up with contingency plans, plural.
"Yes." Her smile is somehow soft and bold, humor making the gold in her bright eyes sparkle. "I want you to stay here a lot and I want you to stay here a lot." She wants him to stay frequently and she wants it very much.
Jyn isn't a clingy person, but she has very few friends -- half by choice, half by circumstance -- and she gives everything she is to her very few friends. If she could keep them nearby and safe always, that would make her incredibly happy. Her loved ones are very rarely in the same place and she feels pulled in too many directions.
But when Cassian is with her... she doesn't feel like a ship being tossed about at sea, she feels anchored. He grounds her in the best way and it's a feeling she selfishly wants to hold on to as much as possible.
"I don't suspect Bodhi'll give you any ridiculous talk about breaking my heart anyway. He'll probably give me that talk about you."
Oh. Cassian knows Jyn is his friend and would easily risk her life for his, but it's a different kind of overwhelming to hear her admit she wants him to stay basically all the time. He's not sure how often he can without it being noticed, considering his Head Counselor position in his own cabin but -
He does find he would like to stay here a lot too. He likes how attached she sounds, because it's a very rare thing for someone to be so attached to him. Cassian smiles and even though it's not very wide, it still lights up his whole face. "I do like how quiet it is in here."
And her. He likes her. The Athena cabin isn't necessarily loud with a bunch of nerds puttering away inside, but the number of bodies still makes enough noise. The fountain in her cabin is peaceful. And Jyn herself always seems to help him find peace too.
As for Bodhi, he snorts. "I'm not sure if I should be flattered or worried."
"Flattered," she assures him, pulling on the hand holding his to drag him closer until she can curl her arm around his waist. They're gonna snuggle the fuck out of this bed until he has to leave. So hopefully through the majority of her nap.
She'll fight anyone who comes in to interrupt them.
His stomach rolls over when she tugs him in, and it takes him a second, but he drops his arm around her waist too. Jyn naps all the time, and they've fallen asleep outside in the grass side by side before, but never wound up together like this.
He feels pretty okay with it; the longer he's curled in, the more his nerves settle. "So I don't have to be worried?"
"Only that my Papa won't shut up when he meets you." She maybe won't introduce him as the boyfriend immediately, but only because Galen might actually parent and decide Jyn isn't allowed in Cassian's room or vice versa.
Once his arm is settled securely around her she scoots forward even more, tucking her head under his chin, breath warm against his shirt.
"And Dad might send hippos to stalk you because I'm his favorite child." She decided that for him, she is now Poseidon's favorite child.
"I was already prepared to be faced with a lot of science." It should be a different feeling, meeting her dad as just friends vs... whatever they are now, but Jyn doesn't seem to worried, so honestly Cassian isn't either.
He almost suggests Athena might do something similar, maybe with owls, but that would imply his mother actually acknowledge he exists.
"Hippos in the Sound might be cause for concern," is what he says lightly instead, smiling as she tucks herself in. He tightens his arm more snugly, content and comfortable despite any lingering nerves. "Your shark friends are better."
A laugh rumbles past her lips. Cassian may think her shark friends are better, but right now he is winning in the comparison against her shark plushies.
(Will Poseidon and Galen start sending her Cassian plushies???)
"Gerald will be so happy to know he is better than a hippo," she tells him, voice sounding sleepier. Sadly, because she can't read minds and because she's too worn out to really think about what she's saying, she asks softly: "Do you think your father would have liked me?"
Not Athena, because fuck Athena, but his actual father, the one that had raised him until K2 had found him and brought him here. His actual decent parent, not the garbage of his mother.
(Do Cassian plushies even exist?? She may be out of luck.)
At the sound of how tired she is, Cassian knows that at some point she is going to fall asleep literally in his arms, and the thought gives him butterflies.
The fluttering slows when she lets her question slip out. Not because she's gone and ruined the moment so much as talking about his parents isn't conducive to warm Jyn related feelings.
He smiles a little. "I do think so, yes. I like you. That would probably have been enough for him."
He's spent more years without his father than he did with at this point, but he always remembers being warm and loved.
"You like me," Jyn repeats, sounding satisfied with his answer. Mr D might not like her that much because Jyn is a terrible, reckless little teenager, but Cassian likes her and his father would have liked her and Cassian likes Gerald so everything is perfect.
She is warm and safe and dry and she doesn't ask any more questions because she falls asleep. It's the second time she's been unconscious in his arms today alone but at least she hasn't passed out this time.
