He is not being stubborn! He just wants to lay in bed with Jyn, this is not a hard task! If he goes back to bed he'll just be thinking about the two of them, so he might as well stay here where he can watch them instead.
"You can hold her as much as you like. I can share with you." As though Jyn hasn't already had more baby time than almost all their other friends. "She is very warm, especially at night."
Jyn just can't hold her all night. She has a baby schedule to keep!
If she is sleeping in Jyn's arms then she is still sleeping and there is no change in schedule, zing. You lose, Andor. Instead of arguing that -- she knows she will be shot down for a variety of reasons, Jyn just stares at her a little while longer until she stops sucking at the bottle and Jyn gently pulls it away.
Sofia nestles closer to her and Jyn thinks she might die.
"Okay, take her because otherwise I won't let go and she'll be sleeping in bed with us." Also her necklace is caught in Sofia's hand so help is needed anyway.
She would definitely lose! It took him weeks to get Sofia to sleep in her crib in her own room, and while he still occasionally sleeps in bed with her, he is mostly good at sticking to his own rule.
Cassian climbs to his feet with a soft smile and gently disentangles his baby's tiny fingers from the necklace. Once it's free, he shuffles Sofia into his own arms without waking her up or even interrupting her sleep. He settles her gently into her crib, leaning over to plant a kiss on her head.
He turns back to Jyn and idly holds out his hand like a question. "Can we go back to bed now?"
Jyn begrudgingly pushes herself out of the rocking chair, standing up and taking his hand, dancing into his personal space and stretching up to kiss him.
"Yes, Cassian, we can go back to bed now." She rolls her eyes because of course he wants to cuddle, he always has and she has never minded one bit being wrapped up in Cassian's arms. She releases his hand and curls both arms around his neck, kissing him again. The baby is right there but she's asleep.
It's only the way that she rolls up on her tiptoes that telegraphs her next move, jumping up to wrap her legs around his waist with a cheeky smile. "Take me to bed, Captain."
He smiles into every kiss she gives him. Let him and his love for cuddling live, Jyn Erso!!!
When her hands slither around his neck and she leans up, he knows what's coming. His own hands settle at her waist and he helps her leap up, shifting his grip to keep her in place there.
"To sleep," he adds. In theory there could be a round three, but he also needs to get up early! It doesn't stop him from laughing as he carries her to his room, one hand on her thigh and the other on her back.
He doesn't drop his gaze from her face the whole (admittedly short) walk to his bed, but he worries it might be too much. To break any of that, he dislodges her just enough and tosses her gently onto the mattress. Before she can even get her balance or chastise him, he's leaping on it beside her with the biggest of grins on his own face.
"To sleep," Jyn agrees. She's not very tired, but she knows from past experience that cuddling kind of puts her to sleep. Probably because it's so boring, ugh.
She cackles with laughter when he throws her on the bed, still laughing when he leaps to join her. He's such an idiot and she's struck again with how much she loves that about him, the playful, sweet side of him that was there even before Sofia was born.
"You're so dumb. Come here." She grabs him in the tightest hug she can manage, which is pretty tight now, burying her face against his neck. Ugh! Being with him makes her weak and sappy and sentimental, it's disgusting! "Thank you for still being my friend."
She hugs him and that is all he wanted before sleep!! Hugs! Cuddling! He hasn't done either like this in over a year, and Jyn still fits perfectly. Cassian hugs her back easily and eagerly, wrapping his arms around her and smiling.
"It is as much of a relief to me as you, Jyn. Thank you too." He kisses the top of her head, because it's within reach and the casual kisses are a very important part of cuddles. "I missed you. More than I realized."
She was his best friend for years, and it's the best feeling to know it was possible to return to that. To come back to her in any capacity and still feel like a team. Like friends and family and all that sappy sentimental stuff she hates.
She sighs happily at the brush of his lips against her hair, but shifts a little so she can curl up in front of him, the little spoon. Sometimes, even she just wants to be held.
"I missed you too. I almost turned back so many times, but. Being here while you were gone. I couldn't have done it. And now I'm glad I didn't because Sofia's the coolest baby on the planet." And she was worth Jyn leaving.
Jyn snuggles into the pillow, reaching down to grab the blanket so she can attempt to pull it over them.
Jyn curls up in front of him and Cassian smiles like an idiot, draping his arms around her and tucking himself in closer. This is perfect, it's everything he could have wanted to end his day with.
"She is definitely the coolest baby, but I might be biased, so it's good to have your affirmation too."
He missed Jyn a lot over the years, but she's right - if they hadn't broken up, he wouldn't have Sofia, and he can't imagine that. When she grabs the blanket, he helps her along until it's covering them both. He feels... settled, wrapped up in Jyn with his baby sleeping in the next room.
"I am glad you're here now. Glad that we have found each other again. I will still make us pancakes in the morning."
He's so warm, enveloping her in that warmth, and combined with the blanket, it's enough to lull Jyn into sleep fairly quickly, even if she tries to fight it a little.
Look. They just had excellent sex, she is worn out.
"Pancakes were non-negotiable, but I'm glad too." She yawns, closing her eyes as she tangles one of her hands with the arm looped around her waist. "See you in the morning, Andor."
She's already yawning, and that hasn't changed. It's a nice feeling though, because it always meant she was comfortable enough to fall asleep beside him. And she still is.
He plants one more kiss on top of her head. "Good night, Jyn."
She falls asleep very quickly, but it's not like it takes him much longer to follow after her. It's been a long emotional night and they had amazing sex! He sleeps easily beside her, and it's a very fortunate night in which Sofia also does not wake up again.
It's not until 7 o'clock that he hears her familiar wake up whines, and he spares a moment to be grateful that she usually doesn't start wailing unless he ignores her for too long. Jyn is still tangled up in his arms, and it takes so much effort to motivate himself away, to climb out of bed before his daughter starts crying.
Jyn sleeps through it all, sleeps through the morning noises as Cassian warms up her bottle and scatters out her cheerios on the highchair. He makes some coffee, stocked up this time unlike when he first ran into Jyn all those weeks ago, and tries not to smile too much over the thought of her still sleeping in his room. Sofia bangs her little hands on the tray, but devours her cheerios with reckless abandon. She's messy, but not a disaster, and it always makes clean up easier. She's still her in her tiny little pjs by the time he heads back into his room around 8:30, if only because he's starting to get hungry himself. He can't eat without Jyn. They're gonna have pancakes!
Hoping it's not too early for her, he climbs into bed with his baby and gently deposits her tiny tush against the pillow next to Jyn's head. She giggles at the sight of her favorite new friend, reaching out to gently pap her cheek.
Sofia makes a quiet startled noise, then carefully looks up at her papa with confusion, leaving her hand on Jyn's face. What is happening papa, why is she just laying here like this??
Jyn is only barely cognizant when she feels a tiny hand on her face, warm and a little sticky. She hears Sofia's confused bleat -- why is there a girl in your bed, papa -- and almost, almost says good morning. But first! First she turns her head and catches Sofia's sticky little fingers in her mouth and exaggerates nibbling at her chubby little fingers. Om nom nom!
The peal of delighted laughter after her initial jump of fright is worth it.
"Mmm breakfast in bed. Yum yum yum. Buenos dias, ballenacita."
Cassian beams while his daughter shrieks and giggles, and he imagines it's probably one of the best ways in the world to really wake up?
Sofia jiggles on the bed, flailing her arms around while Jyn chases after her. Eventually she leans forward and tries to climb onto Jyn's face, because that will clearly stop this mad attempt to eat her!
"I thought you might be hungry," he says with a smile.
"Hungry for baby kisses," Jyn affirms, scooping Sofia up in the air to dangle over her for a brief couple of moments before she flexes those abs and sits up while still holding a wriggling baby, tucking said baby into her lap and kissing her cheek gently once she is seated, ruffling her dark hair.
"I wouldn't say no to boy kisses either. If they're on the menu." She was promised pancakes, but they can wait a little bit now that she's got a little whale in her lap playing with her hair and a cute boy sitting next to her.
Good news: the sight of Jyn with his baby is still one of the best things. He smiles stupidly as they settle in together and completely forgets the pancake agenda.
He does lean over to steal a kiss from Jyn though, once she brings it up. If he could kiss her whenever he wanted again, that would be... great. Super great. "They are always on the menu."
What if they were the only thing on the menu?? No, he supposes they do have to eat sometimes.
"Good morning," he says, shifting over so he's closer to them both. "Sorry if it is still too early."
"It's a really good menu," Jyn decides, tucking her head against his shoulder when he comes closer. This is the best wake up she's ever had??? In her entire life??? Sofia is so warm and cuddly and Cassian is so Cassian.
"It's not too early." A beat. "I mean, I don't know what time it is, but I assume it's not too early. Might be a bold assumption, but here we are and I'm not having a bad morning."
This is even better! It is one giant cuddle pile full of most of his favorite people. He plants another kiss on the top of Jyn's head, just because it's right there, how was he not supposed to??
He smiles brightly when she says it is a good morning, and everything feels good to be quite honest. "It is about 8:30. This little one has been up for a while now, haven't you?"
Sofia tugs sharply on Jyn's hair with another giggle, but looks over at her papa and bleats in agreement. What did she agree to? She has no idea!
"I hope you still want pancakes, despite the appetizer," he says carefully, like maybe she won't, as though she isn't gleefully sitting with a baby in her lap and leaning against him. "They could make your morning even better. I have chocolate chips. I am not sure about blueberries, we may have finished them up. Someone else loves them too."
"Chocolate chip pancakes would be the icing on the cake, yeah," Jyn agrees, but she straightens up a little so she can kiss him once more, curling one arm around Sofia's belly to heft her up while Jyn shifts up on to her knees for better leverage, to better kiss him. In the midst of kissing, firm and determined, Jyn swaps her hold on Sofia again, turning her to simply plop the baby on her hip.
She draws back when Sofia presses an open mouthed kiss to her shoulder, gnawing on it idly.
"As much as I love kissing you, Captain Andor. I was promised seduction via pancakes and you're not getting out of paying up." She looks over at the baby. "Right, Sof?" Sofia gurgles, still gnawing at her shirt. "Right."
Oh, he's very accepting of this kiss. He's aware of the way Jyn maneuvers Sofia around, but she's a very pliable baby so he's not very concerned about her while he returns her kiss very happily.
His smile is soft and satisfied when she pulls away. He misses it immediately, but there's time for more later.
"There is a reason I came in to wake you up, Jyn." He likes the way she calls him Captain. "In order to make the perfect pancakes, I needed someone to occupy my baby."
And who better tbh! He could shove her in the high chair, but that still requires pause sometimes. Shoving her at Jyn makes it easier.
"Well, I have been known to be very occupying," Jyn agrees, nodding sagely. "Alright, I accept these terms. But only for another kiss. And maybe a pair of pants I can borrow."
Not because of Sofia but because she knows Cassian probably keeps the heat at a reasonable temperature and Jyn will thus be chilly because of who she is as a person. Even with the blanket cape she will inevitably rock, pants would be good in December. Already she wants to stay all day and night again but she just woke up and who knows what Cassian had planned already.
"That seems a fair price," he grins, leaning in easily to press his lips to hers, smiling against her mouth. He lingers for a second because he can, breaking away only when his daughter's tiny hands reach up to pap his chin.
He shuffles away, determined to get out of bed because otherwise he would stay there all morning and he simply cannot set such a terrible example for Sofia. Also, she's probably going to get hungry again soon anyway. He stands up and smiles at them again, wondering if it's stupid to be this happy so quickly. "I have sweatpants in the closet. But only one of them are clean right now, so you cannot keep them forever."
Yet. He wants to say yet, but he worries that implies Too Much.
"Can I keep them tonight? I promise you can take them off me in the morning so you know they are safely in your possession once more."
She swings Sofia up into the air and gently tosses her into the pillows -- something Papa used to do with her -- as if the baby's delighted giggles will be enough of a distraction against basically asking if she can sleep over tonight, too. Waking up to Cassian and Sofia was nice. She wants to hang on to that a little longer.
She wants to stay again tonight. His face quietly brightens, because for however much she might have panicked about what trying again meant, she still wants to stay over all over again. How can he possibly say no to the sweatpants, especially when she is playing with his baby and tossing her into the pillows and getting her to laugh and making him feel like his best friend is back to stay in his life?
"I have to run a few errands today, if you want to join us." It's really only to pick up a couple things for his grandmother and baby, but he would not say no to Jyn tagging along. "You can borrow that shirt again tonight too, if you like."
And he can take both off in the morning! Because yes, the answer to her sleeping over again is a yes.
"I can if we stop by the farmhouse so I can change first." Walk of (no) shame is one thing if she's only going from his house to hers in last night's dress, but she can't be tromping around town all day in last night's dress.
Not in part because she 'disposed' of her tights already so she'll be cold.
She is happy to stay with him all day though. Maybe it will be different in the light of day, but he's her best friend (again), she just wants to make up for all that lost time. And maybe make out a little too.
