Jyn realizes, when he offers to leave her to sleep, that she doesn't want to be alone. The reason she'd be able to pass out was probably because he was there. That's a complicated thought and she shoves it away because Cassian can't just hang around her house while she naps, he has a baby to take care of and probably things to do.
And frankly, she doesn't want to unpack that feeling. She nods, belatedly, absently smiling at Sofia petting the fake llama. She wonders what her delight would be like at a petting zoo and makes a mental note to suggest it to Cassian, or to have Bodhi to suggest it to Cassian if/when she chickens out.
"Yeah." Another nod. "Yeah, I sure you should get Sofia back home before..." She trails off, before she's hungry or dirty or grumpy because she's become sleepy. Any and all options, but no doubt at least one of them will come true in the near future.
There's something dishonest in her tone, even if it's not terribly obvious. It makes him want to stay, despite what she tells him.
Sofia keeps petting the llama, babbling at it like she's trying to initiate a conversation. Even though it very clearly does not respond, she seems satisfied. He will have to take her home eventually, because he doesn't really have any food with him, but she's awake and alert and in a good mood.
"She is okay, for now," he starts, carefully. He hopes it didn't come across like he wanted to leave. "I would... still like to see you. You could come over for dinner, if you want?" It's half a question, leaving it slightly open ended in case she'd rather not, or if she has another idea? Maybe she just wants some time to regroup herself? He does have to get home, though he wouldn't mind if she tagged along. "You are still invited. I just don't want to overstep. You have had quite a week, I am sure."
Jyn nods idly, thinking about his offer. Question. Thing.
"Dinner," she agrees, mouth twitching in a smile at Sofia's interest in the llama. She wishes there were a smaller-- wait. Holding up a finger, she sets the tall llama on the floor and turns, ducking into her open closet. Pawing through a literal closet of high school clothes that have never been purged, she seems to be hunting for something in particular, mumbling under her breath. "Aha!"
Finally she emerges with a much smaller llama, baby sized, plucking a stray friendship bracelet from around its fluffy neck. "Here you go, ballenacita. Your size."
She looks back up at Cassian. "Dinner would be nice."
He's relieved when she agrees to dinner, nerves settling a little. This is fine, they can figure out how to interact again. "I can even cook, if you would help me entertain Sofia."
Sofia immediately reaches for the llama with delight, staring at its face like she can will it to life, all while she's babbling excitedly. Cassian, however, recognizes the tiny llama as a gift from Jyn's mother - she'd had it since they were kids - and he frowns thoughtfully. "You do not have to give her that, Jyn."
"Unless this is a complaint because she has too many toys right now and you somehow think a baby can be spoiled.. Let me give her the bloody llama." She doesn't want him to make it a thing. It's not a thing. Sofia will forget about it in two weeks, like babies do, and it will wind up back in Jyn's closet when Cassian feels too guilty about keeping it, which will be absurd because:
"It's been in my closet, unused, for a least a decade. She loves it."
She does not have as many toys as one might think, mostly because Cassian doesn't make a lot of money. There are lots of little adorable things he wants to buy, but he's very good at resisting.
"She can borrow it." There! A middle ground! He will absolutely shove it back into Jyn's closet when the baby tires of it, there's no stopping him.
Sofia cuddles the llama in close, then tucks her head against Cassian's chest with a mumble. It's so soft, she's so comfortable. He looks down at her and draws his finger gently over her cheek. "Say thank you, Sofia."
"You're very welcome, Miss Andor." It strikes her again, suddenly, that Cassian has a child, a daughter. This tiny little creature is his. She's accepted it, somehow with ease, but it hits her again, that Cassian is now part of a non-negotiable package deal and it's odd.
It's odd, especially, that it still seems so normal.
A small, tired smile flickers on her expression. "I'll see you in a few hours then?"
The aforementioned Miss Andor makes another happy noise, softer though like she's more relaxed. The llama has calming qualities.
Maneuvering one arm without disturbing his daughter, he pulls his phone from his pocket and holds it out for her. "Put your number in? I can text you the address."
It's such a normal offer, but it also means... he'll have her number again. He could talk to her whenever he wanted, and he's rather fond of that idea.
"Yeah," Jyn says, taking the phone and typing in her number. She saves it for him, putting a star emoji instead of her name and then closing his contacts so he will have to go in and find her.
Always a butthead. She does reach over to tuck it back in his pocket for him.
"Do you want me to walk you to the door?" It's a little teasing since he clearly knows the way from her bedroom to the door.
Sofia watches Jyn move around with just her eyes, and Cassian tries not to get distracted by the way her hand dips behind him.
He smiles when she teases him, albeit quietly. "I think I can find my way, if you want to transition into immediate nap." He ducks down and kisses Sofia's head. "Say goodbye for now, mija."
"Hasta luego caimán." It doesn't rhyme now, since Jyn refused to change it so it would rhyme, but the singsong tone is the same as she ducks in to kiss Sofia's round little cheeks. "I'll see you later."
That's for Cassian, really, even if it's still directed at Sofia. She feels odd, saying goodbye to him again, even if it is just for now.
Cassian puffs out a laugh, because of course she'd keep it caimán. He beams when she kisses Sofia, offering her another small smile. "See you later."
He almost doesn't want to leave, which is kind of stupid, so he just uses his suddenly sleepy daughter for motivation to slip from the room and slip downstairs, gathering his remaining things before he heads out the door.
