She didn't want Bodhi to ask more questions than he was already asking, what with having him help pin her hair in place. He didn't drive her because he didn't need to know where she was going or with whom because he would probably assume it was a date and Jyn didn't want to get into how much this wasn't a date because her worst nightmare was going to be inside that museum and maybe also her father which is a nightmare in and of itself.
The two of them together might well be the end of her and Cassian will be able to witness her decent into madness first hand.
Aside from that, it's going to be a great night.
"You look handsome." At least she still can appreciate the finer things in life, namely Cassian in that suit. He's gorgeous all the time and she's seen him in loads of styles -- workout gear and casual jeans and work clothes and those god damn sweats -- but the suit is something else entirely. Another level.
"I am impressed it survived the subway unscathed."
He got a ride from a coworker, though he had them drop him off about two blocks away. It's not a secret that he is attending this gala, though Draven did try his best to keep it mostly under wraps.
He smiles at her little compliment. "Thank you," he says a little quietly, because even if he has and continues to use his looks to his advantage, it's more genuine coming from Jyn who's seen him in all manner of clothes. "I should have known you would come in all black, but you look beautiful."
Is he allowed to say that?? Too bad, it's out. He offers out his hand, because despite the air she's trying to give off, Cassian still gets the sense she's nervous - and he wouldn't blame her. He knows what's awaiting them. The least he can do is hold her hand the whole way.
It's hesitant because she is still hesitant with what they are. Some kind of nebulous friends with benefits but also more than friends?? She does take his hand, her own trembling a little, soaking up the warmth of his presence and the comfort she takes from it. She tries not to think about it. She is his date, or rather he is her date, she's supposed to look like she wants to be with him and that will be easy, but
ugh feelings.
"Black makes my skin look... whiter. Harder to see the scars." All her bruises are on her front and legs so the low back and bare arms only reveal past scars that have since faded as well to pale streaks and splotches.

She's so hesitant that Cassian doesn't know what to do with it? Jyn is not a hesitant person. He supposes... it's been a little nebulous between them lately, since their pseudo-fight (can it be a fight when it's one person ignoring another?). So when she does take his hand, he's relieved, giving her fingers a tiny little reassuring squeeze as he gently tugs her up the stairs.
He knows where all the scars are, because even though the open back of her dress invites imagination, he doesn't need that. He's already seen her naked, scars bared and he's traced many of them with his mouth.
He really shouldn't be thinking about that now, but he can't get over how amazing she looks.
"It is a very versatile color," he says, trying to figure out what else he wants to say that won't make her feel awkward, even though compliments just want to pour out like a waterfall. "You can borrow my jacket, if you get cold."
She leans in, ostensibly to get close to her date, free hand lifting to curl around his bicep, but really it is just to whisper: "You're not hiding a gun under that jacket?"
Jyn doesn't actually know how undercover detective work works and she thinks Cassian is technically undercover even if her own presence is predicated on being 100% Jyn Erso since it was Jyn Erso that got the invitation. Maybe she just want to know because she is curious, maybe she wants to know in order to second guess her own weapons situation, maybe she wants to know so she can shoot Orson Krennic.
Options.
Either way the question brings her very close to him and she hums a considering noise after the question. "I like your cologne."
He ducks his head in towards her, looking exactly the part of a flirty boyfriend to whisper back: "Why would I have a gun, at a simple gala? I am here simply and only as your date. But maybe we should do our best to keep the jacket for you as a last resort."
He does indeed have a gun, snug in a holster around his chest. It's not like they're expecting him to get into a brawl, but better safe than sorry. He's just... supposed to look around, maybe see what kind of people Krennic is schmoozing with. But half the people in there are probably armed too.
Then he flails internally over the compliment, which is stupid; he's literally been inside her multiple times but she said a nice thing to him and he flounders. "Gracias. It's... new."
He went to the store and accidentally ended up with something that reminded him of Jyn, but he will never admit that.
