A roly poly version of Cassian in miniature down to the little crinkle between his eyebrows when he is concentrating on trying to achieve something -- like now, a tiny furrow as he crinkles the paper. A moment later he seems to notice the sound and beams at the paper. How kind of it to make such a wonderful noise!
Jyn smiles softly at their son -- their son! -- and reaches out to smooth back his hair. "I like the sound of a children's party. I think Javi will enjoy the company of people his own size."
He is a very fat baby. Cassian likes to use the word chubby in polite conversation, but everyone knows it's an understatement. "They want to see him too. Leia was going to try and visit this time as well. Apparently a baby lures all manner of people in."
So many people have tried to instigate a visit to Fest in the hopes of meeting its new tiny prince, but it's the high winter season. Guests find it harder to get in, which is honestly perfectly acceptable for Cassian and Jyn both.
He bounces Javi a little and he bleats unhappily, how dare his papa try to distract him. His eyebrows scrunch even tighter together while he keeps playing with the paper, the noise repeating, and he giggles with his whole body in victory. Cassian leans down to kiss his head. "He seems to like people of any size." Unlike them. "They'll all be very excited to see him too."
He'd rather have kingdom kids visiting their son than random royalty from miles and mile away.
"Which is ridiculous," Jyn complains sounding as unhappy has Javi before he'd crinkled the paper again. Is she complaining about the children being excited to play with Javi or the lure of a baby in general?
No, of course not.
"How did we make a child that enjoys attention and company when I personally can't stand it and you, well, you're much better than me at pretending." Maybe he likes it a little, but Javi is such a cheerful, relaxed baby and his parents are high strung control freaks with stress about being stressed, how did this even happen?
(Maybe the fact that his parents enjoy each other's company and attention and relax around each other? Nah, sounds fake.)
"Which part?" He sounds amused by her complaint, though he's also amused by Javi's continued obsession with the paper. Maybe they really don't need to keep any of the actual presents. He throws it quite suddenly, then looks very confused as to where it went, flopping over again in Cassian's arms with a puzzled grunt.
Javi spends 90% of his time with his parents who utterly adore each other and adore him, that is how! Who knew they could leave a good impression on a very tiny mind. "Do you know how much attention we give him? He is going to be more social than both of us combined."
"That sounds awful." If he is social, then he will bring his social to his parents. Maybe they should start ignoring him. Which she starts, obviously, by leaning over to kiss the top of his head.
"Did you lose your toy, my love?" He makes a happy squeak in her direction before tipping over to open mouth kiss her cheek. It's not a real kiss, of course, he is too young to know what a kiss is, but it's practically the same thing and Jyn accepts it as a kiss. "Oh thank you very much, perhaps your Papa will give me one as well."
"Not if he does all the talking for us." Just gotta make it work!!
Cassian just smiles when Javi kisses Jyn, because their baby is very affectionate. There is no question he adores his parents, Jyn especially.
He shoots Jyn a very amused look, but really he has no qualms about kissing her, ever, so he leans in to press his lips to hers in a soft kiss. Javi throws his hands up and lets out a cheerful gurgle, like he's absorbing the love, or maybe asking for more himself. Cassian grabs his little hand and peppers his fingers with kisses, and the gurgle turns into a giggle. "There is plenty to go around, any time your mama wants one."
"I would like one every five minutes for the rest of our lives," Jyn decrees immediately. Give her an inch and she will take six miles and a small recently liberated country that like I don't care about because I don't watch the news.
She loves him, she wants his kisses always.
And she loves Javi, an extension of Cassian, really. Watching them together makes her heart swell with warmth and contentment, feeling whole and settled and complete. She'd thought she'd been whole before, when his love had filled in all the cracks but now it seems more. Cassian had brought love and such happiness to her life and now the natural extension of that it seemed was the small, happy baby constantly trying to flop about in his parent's arms.
"I cannot kiss you in my sleep. I draw the line at waking up every five minutes, but I can kiss you every time he wakes up in the night."
Cassian is, obviously, more than happy to kiss her at any given moment. He likes to make sure Jyn feels loved.
Javi paps his papa's beard, then flops over in his arms, head tiling over like he simply cannot support it by himself at all! Which was the case months ago, but now it's just what he does. He blows a raspberry, then tries to flop over even more, like he wants to wriggle right out of his papa's arms and onto the floor. He is melting, because life is so hard.
He is going to make sure Javi always feels just as loved too.
"Mmm, I suppose that is acceptable." He makes a good point as far as sleep is concerned. She wouldn't want him to wake her up to kiss her, either. Except for the times she does want him to wake her up by kissing her, but that's different. That's in the morning. That inevitably leads to making out before breakfast.
She laughs at Javi's silliness, wondering how he is even so liquid. There are stoats outside that are less liquidy than their son. Jyn reaches over to haul him up but his suspenders and Javi laughs like it's the funnest game, like they've done it before.
"The good mornings will continue as usual." Cassian secretly (or not so secretly) enjoys when the lazy morning kisses turn into rolling around in bed. It feels like they're in a bubble, where it's just them and there's no kingdom waiting for them.
Javi exerts absolutely zero effort to keep upright, relying solely on the way Jyn holds him up with completely uninhibited giggling. He might actually be part liquid.
Happy baby, a carefree life they had both lost so young. That's all Jyn wants to give him, a life free of the fear and loss they had both had heaped upon them from far too young an age. Slowly she lets him go so he can dangle in Cassian's arms again like he clearly wants, a little liquid baby.
Jyn manages to take his attention, and he looks at her with such complete adoration. It doesn't last very long, if only because his son is liquifying in his arms.
"It's all I could have asked for. Him to be happy, and you."
Javi flops over and coos, seemingly content in his current position, legs sprawled and head tucked against his papa's chest. He reaches out lazily for Jyn, but then drops his hand with another coo.
Jyn gives Javi back her hand, letting him clutch at her fingers with a happy little noise. She's just as content as their son to hang out and relax, draped across his father.
And then one of his presents tips off the pile and makes a whirring noise like a motor and Jyn startles next to Cassian. "What was that?"
That is Bodhi got his nephew a toy boat that really moves in the water.
"A toy of some kind." Obviously, Jyn. Javi's attention hones in on the fallen box while he engages in a staring contest with it. It doesn't matter that it doesn't have eyes. Challenge accepted, lazily of course.
"You could open it, since my hands are a little occupied. It's from Bodhi."
They will definitely keep the presents from Bodhi.
A sudden bark rings out and Miya lopes into the room as Jyn stands up to fetch the present. "Hello love."
Whole body wriggling with the force of her tag wagging, Miya bounds over to Jyn to sniff all of her even as Jyn keeps walking to the tree. Satisfied that her mother is still her mother, Miya vaults over to Cassian and the baby, snuffling the baby like Miya is his mother and not Jyn. Sniff sniff sniff, she licks his cheek and Javi bleats happily, fisting his chubby fingers in the dog's fur.
"We take care of him, Miya!" Jyn mock complains, crouching down next to the fallen present and just... ripping it open. Javi can't open presents, he doesn't care.
Javi loves Miya and Miya loves Javi, it's a very fortunate friendship. Miya flops over besides Cassian and baby, letting Javi continue to pap and pet through his fur. He's surprisingly gentle with the dog, it bodes well. Her tail continues to thwap excitedly against the floor.
"Maybe she just thinks she is everyone's parent. She has to check in on all of us, just in case."
Javi giggles, clearly in agreement. He's not paying much attention to what his mother is doing, if only because dog. Soft dog whom he adores.
"She would starve if not for us, she should know who the parents are." And it is them, Miya! They are the parents!
She rifles through the paper, rolling her eyes at Bodhi's wrapping job. There is too much paper, she is still unwrapping when the toys whirs again and Jyn jumps again, mumbling a swear about her stupid adoptive brother.
"It is..." More crinkling of papers. "It's a little toy boat. Oh, it's little propeller is mechanic, that's what the noise was." Standing up, she brings the little boat back to her husband and son, holding it out to Javi. "Look, love, a boat from Uncle Bodhi."
"I am not so sure about that, if the entirety of the castle staff has anything to say about it." Their dog is so loved, it's ridiculous. She will never want for food.
Cassian bounces Javi a little in his lap while Jyn opens the gift, Miya's tail still wagging like she's just happy to exist with her family. When Jyn holds the boat out for the baby, he gasps with delight and wraps his little fingers around it.
The motor catches him by surprise though, and he lets out a startled noise while he just... stares at the boat, like he can't comprehend the sound and how it relates to this strange object. "This might be the first time he has seen a boat, especially one with a motor."
