He waits like she signifies, because he's curious. There are a lot of assumptions he could make about Jyn Erso and her decline of his offer, but instead he chooses to just listen instead of preemptively analyzing. He's not plenty of other things to analyze.
Cassian makes a face, an agreeable sort of nod and curve of his mouth. "That's fair." He eats another bite of his food before continuing with no argument. He hates the idea of being fed by Imperial money, but it's not the first time. At least this bits of currency are going towards food and not violence. "But I don't really want to thank them for that, so I'll still say it to you instead."
Polite by necessity! But Cassian is getting the sense that Jyn doesn't care about these things, so he resolves to cool it down. It's honestly easier on him that way too; that stiff constant sense of mannerisms can be exhausting, especially when the other person hates it anyway.
"Just that one time. I'll try not to say it again, how's that?"
Jyn's mouth twitches in something that might be a smile. Her face doesn't look like smiles come naturally, not with adults at least.
"That's fine." A beat, the smile is definitely there but it might be a playful smirk. It's honestly hard to tell until she looks up, eyes flecked with mirth. "Thank you."
What a brat.
Still, at least she's not being unnecessarily combative anymore. They eat in peace until Jyn's comm pings from her father. Jyn pays and escorts Cassian home where she promptly abandons him and K2 to her father's clutches and locks herself in Galen's office for the privacy. Galen could, of course, make her come out but he seems unwilling to bother her even more today. She goes to bed silently.
He takes that almost smile as a victory and lets the rest of the afternoon sit there. She probably prefers a little less talking, and when she disappears into her father's office as soon as they get home, he's proven correct. He speaks on and off with Galen, lighter subjects like school, but there is a definite knowing sort of air between them, and when Galen squeezes his shoulder in a goodnight, there's a thank you in there too.
K2 settles and shuts down in the living room, and Cassian sits out there until Jyn crawls to bed going over his datapad, checking in on missions and messages from Bail. He's still not sure Jyn likes him much simply because he's invading her space, but at least she doesn't seem to outright hate him.

She'd prefer he not thank anyone but she doesn't feel like that is an argument she wants to get into right now. He strikes her as one of those...
polite people.
Ew.

Not so bad, all things considered.
