"Of course I ca--" Her shout is cut off abruptly since he is right in front of her so she doesn't need to yell and, god, he's so tall and grown up her chin has to tip up more than she is used to to address him.

She tries again, mouth opening and shutting as she tries to work out how to apologize for doing to him what everyone had already done to her. She looks like an unhappy fish for a moment before she realizes that she can't, she has no right, she never has.
"You're right." Her voice drops to something reasonable, but it's still soaked in a thunderstorm of emotion. She never did learn the practiced neutrality he was so good at. "What I did to you was cruel and selfish and I dressed it up as selfless to make myself feel better. And now I'm taking credit for your accomplishments for the same reason."
